傳奇搖滾樂團Cream的鼓手Ginger Baker從上個月開始健康狀況惡化，經一個月的掙扎之後，本周日終於以八十歲高齡在英國的醫院去世，他的家屬已證實這一噩耗。
"我們很悲傷地告訴大家："Ginger今晨平和地走了"，家屬在臉書與推特上簡短地宣布了此事，"謝謝大家一周以來推文給我們"。
Baker和妻子Kudzai Baker共度餘生，他住在英格蘭肯特郡和一位來自辛巴威的護士和三個子女Nettie
Baker,、Leda Baker 和 Kofi Baker為伴，他們都生於1960年代，是Baker的第一任妻子Liz
Finch所生。
Ginger Baker本名Peter Baker，1939年八月19日出生，在15歲開始學打鼓之前，他其實比音樂更喜歡運動，他拜Phil Seamen為師，Phil是英格蘭最傑出的爵士樂手之一。
Baker所參加的第一個樂隊是Alexis Korner的 Blues Incorporated，他當時認識了Jack Bruce，後來共組了Cream合唱團，在Eric Clapton加入之後，他們出了四張專輯，1966的Fresh Cream、1967年的Disraeli
Gears、1968年的 Wheels of Fire 及 1969年的Goodbye，然後Clapton就離開了Cream。
Clapton誇讚Baker是一位多才多藝的音樂人，他的音樂造詣也是全方位的。
因"Sunshine of Your Love" 及
"White Room"二首歌在單曲榜獲得很好的成績，使Cream成了那個年代大牌搖滾樂團之一。
Baker後來繼續組了Blind Faith 與 Ginger Baker's Air Force合唱團，然後搬到南非，他喜歡當一個爵士樂手而不只當一個搖滾樂鼓手。
在去世前二十年，Baker加入Masters of Reality的一張專輯的製作，他另組the Ginger Baker Trio在Cream的一些重逢演唱會演唱。
他寫的自傳Hellraiser，2012年曾拍過紀錄片Beware of Mr. Baker，在自傳裡，Baker說他戒海洛因29次，坦白的說出他吸毒和嗜酒成癮的往事。
2010年初Baker宣告他得了肺病，2016年他取消了巡迴演唱，說他心臟出了問題。
Rush的鼓手 Neil Peart 有一次描寫 Baker像一位外向的創新者，他補充說："Baker,替鼓手設了一個標靶"。
當有人問他甚麼是他最值得回憶的，Baker說 ："鼓手"。
Cream是由三位巨星級團員組成的搖滾樂團，他們是吉他手Eric Clapton、貝斯手Jack Bruce和鼓手Ginger Baker，當Cream解散後，Eric Clapton、Ginger Baker與Steve Winwood另組過Blind Faith。
Cream的經典之作是1968年獲得第5名的歌"Sunshine
of your love"， 這一首進搖滾樂名人堂的歌，在滾石雜誌500大歌曲榜獲得第65名。
