以1972年的四週冠軍歌曲American Pie 一曲成名的Don McLean，七月24日因家暴在他的家鄉緬因州Camden遭到拘捕，後來以三千美金交保，並切結一年內不得再犯。
Don McLean 係於1945年出生於紐約州的New Rochelle，他的American Pie描述1959年的一場原來不再被人提起的空難，使得早期搖滾樂的名歌手Buddy Holly、The Big Bopper及 Ritchie Valens因之喪生，他在歌中唱道"day the music died"｢搖滾樂也因此逝去｣，在樂界很引起爭議，但Don McLean拒絕說明歌中所描述的人與事，也希望別人不要再問他。
American Pie 曾是RIAA｢美國唱片協會｣票選為二十世紀第五名的歌，今年（2017）美國國會圖書館也因這一首歌在文化、歷史、藝術上的重要性，而將之列入國家錄音紀錄。
