Sylvia與第一首進入排行榜的rap歌曲

以1957年與Mickey Baker合作以Mickey and Sylvia二重唱之名推出曾獲第11名的Love Is Strange，和以Sylvia之名推出的1973年第3名的Pillow Talk（這二首歌在R&B榜都獲睇2名）成名的Sylvia Vanderpool Robinson,9月23日不幸去世（75歲），Sylvia出生於紐約哈林區，1950年即以Little Sylvia之名踏入唱片界，Mickey Baker教她彈吉它並於1955年開始成為歌壇搭擋，他們有8首歌進過排行榜，後來Mickey到巴黎去發展，Sylvia則嫁給Joe Robinson，夫妻倆開了All-Platinum and Vibration唱片公司，培養出Donnie Elbert 和 Shirley and Company，1973 年Sylvia東山再起，她的Pillow Talk與另外3首歌重回排行榜。


夫妻倆接著把公司改名Sugar Hill Records，旗下合唱團Sugar Hill Gang 的 "Rapper's Delight" 在1980年獲得第36名，這也是第一首進入排行榜的rap歌曲，Sylvia 與Joe夫妻二人成為rap音樂的開路先鋒。

Sylvia 與Joe夫婦後來離婚，Sylvia又開了Bon Ami Records，她的努力為她贏得了hip-hop,之母的稱號，她與Joe Robinson的兒子Joey則組了舞曲合唱團West Street Mob，1981 及 1982年曾有歌曲進過排行榜。

Rapper's Delight這首歌雖然排行榜名次不高，但被收進搖滾樂名人堂，還是滾石雜誌500大歌曲榜第248名的歌，主題音樂”借”自Chic 1979年的冠軍曲Good Times。

老歌迷們當年聽Sylvia以性感的歌聲演唱Pillow Talk時，絕對想不到她日後事業上的成就讓她在流行歌壇歷史留名。
