Beatles-Twist & Shout

 有人說 the Beatles 披頭四合唱團利用了黑人音樂出名。

John Lennon 在 1971 年 9 月 14 日寫給《紐約時報》的信中駁斥了這些說法，並寫道：

「“Money”、“Twist & Shout”、“YouReally Got A Hold On Me”等都是我們在英國各地舞廳（主要是利物浦）常唱的曲目。我一直希望我們能唱得更接近原作。」

「早期我們並沒有唱自己的歌曲，它們當時真的不夠好。我們一直喜歡做的一件事就是讓人們知道我們唱的是黑人原創的。我們希望用任何方式將它傳播到世界各地。」

「在 1950 年代，無論是在美國還是在英國，很少人聽 Blues、R&B、搖滾樂。像 Eric Burdon 的 Animals 合唱團、Mick Jagger 的 Rolling Stones 合唱團和我們（披頭四合唱團）這樣的人就在喝酒、吃飯、睡覺之餘還錄製了音樂，讓很多孩子因為我們的努力開始聽黑人音樂。」

「這不是抄襲。這是一種愛」。

“Twist & Shout”這一首歌最早於 1962年由黑人三重唱 Isley Brothers 推出獲得過第 17名。1964年 the Beatles 披頭四合唱團再度推出，曾獲得Billboard 票房雜誌單曲榜連續四周第2名，在 Cashbox 錢櫃雜誌則獲得冠軍。

Isley Brothers 是一個 R&B-Rock-Funk 樂團，活躍於1960-70年代，“It's Your Thing”是他們排行榜上名次最好的歌（1969#2）。
