1960年代中期來自洛杉磯的一個迷幻搖滾樂團Music Machine的主唱與吉它手Sean Bonniwell 12月24日去世（71歲），Sean原名Thomas Harvey Bonniwell起先唱民歌， 1965年因民歌式微而組了The Ragamuffins合唱團改唱搖滾樂，他們先因穿黑衣單手帶手套的造型讓人留下印象，接著在1966年底推出的"Talk Talk,"獲得排行榜15名，使他們嚐到成功的滋味。
Music Machine之後推出的"The People in Me" 與 "Double Yellow Line"二首單曲成績都未能進排行榜前60名。


1996年Sean Bonniwell曾出自傳，書名先叫"Talk Talk"，然後改名"Beyond The Garage"，像Music Machine這種幾個高中生因崇拜Bob Dylan與The Beatles，在鄉間車庫練出來的Garage Band，在歌壇也有不少成名的例子，由於Punk龐克音樂在1970年代才興起，Music Machine的音樂有樂評人歸類為Garage Punk（地下、非主流、極簡搖滾）。

R＆B音樂人Ralph McDonald去世

Roberta Flack 與Donnie Hathaway的暢銷曲"Where Is The Love"及 Grover Washington Jr. 與 Bill Withers的 "Just The Two Of Us"的共同作者Ralph McDonald 12月18日因肺癌不幸去世（67歲），Ralph也曾經在David Bowie的"Young Americans" 及Jimmy Buffett的"Margaritaville."這二首名曲玩打擊樂器。


Roberta Flack 22日應邀在Ralph McDonald的喪禮中演唱，她表示Ralph在她的一生佔很重要的地位，他是一位對所有音樂都懂也會玩的樂師。

Roberta Flack自幼就學鋼琴，15歲就得到華盛頓霍華德大學的藝術學位，後來在故鄉北卡羅萊納州當音樂老師，因為爵士樂手Les McCann的推薦於1969年與Atlantic唱片公司簽約踏入流行歌唱界，她的成名曲是1972年克林伊斯威特主演的電影Play Misty For Me「迷霧追魂」的插曲The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face，而1973年的Killing Me Softly With His Song這首歌使她踏上事業巔峰（BMI全美最常播出歌曲第11名），Roberta Flack後來在歷年暢銷歌星排行榜獲得第171名。

R＆B製作人、作曲、鍵琴手、歌手Donnie Hathaway是Roberta Flack霍華德大學的同學，1979年他於紐約跳樓自殺（33歲），他們倆合唱的"Where Is The Love"是1972年曾獲得第5名的歌。

Etta James重病

1960年代知名的R＆B “節奏與藍調”女歌手Etta James因白血病和老年癡呆症病情嚴重已經花了三十多萬美金，12月20日她的先生和兒子在法庭達成協議，由結婚32年的先生繼續照顧他老婆，並且處理Etta的資產。


Etta James係於1938年出生於洛杉磯外號「桃姐」，因為她1955年的成名曲，後來得到靈魂歌曲榜四週冠軍的The Wallflower，是以Etta James and “The Peaches”之名推出而得名，Etta是一位對開創R＆B音樂有貢獻的歌手，早年曾與The Moonglows合唱團主唱Harvey Fuqua組成Etta＆Harvey二重唱，但因吸毒而於1970年代後期消失於歌壇。

Etta James沒有Top10的歌，但暢銷曲其實很多，在歷年暢銷歌星排行榜獲得第112名，2003年並得到Grammy終生成就獎。

Etta James 在排行榜上名次最好的歌是1967年第23名的Tell Mama，這首歌也被收進搖滾樂名人堂。

搖滾樂團Troggs 主唱中風

英國搖滾樂團Troggs 的主唱歌手 Reg Presley 12月14日在英格蘭Winchester因中風和肺炎住院 ，Reg Presley現年已七十歲，一年前他曾中風過，他太太說這次Reg開始感到不舒服是12月3日在德國演唱的時候，而且越來越嚴重。


The Troggs是於英格蘭Andover組成的1960年代知名的搖滾樂團，成名曲是1966年2週冠軍曲Wild Thing，這首歌後來被收進搖滾樂名人堂，也是滾石雜誌500大歌曲榜第257名的名曲，他們的Love Is All Around及With A Girl Like You也都很受歌迷們歡迎。

紐西蘭最流行的歌"Ten Guitars"

紐西蘭最近把Engelbert Humperdinck的 "Ten Guitars"這首歌當作以數字為主題的郵票之一，這首歌是1967年暢銷曲"Please Release Me"反面的歌，但是在紐西蘭特別流行，曾經一度有歌迷呼籲以這首歌當紐西蘭國歌。


Engelbert Humperdinck 1936年出生於印度的Mardras，本名Arnold Dorsey，但在英格蘭Leicester長大，1958年開始灌唱片，1965年遇到Tom Jones的經紀人Gordon Mills，在他的建議後改名Engelbert Humperdinck（這原是德國一位著名的歌劇作曲家的名字），1967-1971年Engelbert有連續11首歌獲得Adult Contemporay抒情歌曲排行榜前10名的佳績。

後來以Release Me（And Let Me Love Again）之名在美國推出的這首歌是Engelbert Humperdinck 1967年第4名的成名曲，Ten Guitars是45轉小唱片反面的歌，作者就是Gordon Mills。

Engelbert Humperdinck在歷年暢銷歌星排行榜獲得第307名。

民謠合唱團The Highwaymen

1960年代早期的知名民謠合唱團the Highwaymen的團員Bob Burnett，12月7日在他的故鄉羅德島州East Providence不幸因病去世（71歲），the Highwaymen另外四名團員是Dave Fisher, Steve Trott, Chan Daniels 與 Steve Butts，其中Daniels 1975年時即因肺炎早逝（35歲），這個合唱團組成的時候叫the Clansmen，後來改名the Highwaymen 則取材自Alfred Noyes的詩歌。


The Highwaymen自校園演唱出發，二年後前往紐約發展，他們第一張唱片主打歌是講加州淘金熱的"Santiano,"，反面的歌是"Michael (Row The Boat Ashore)"，在民謠盛行的當年這張唱片在排行榜奮力往上爬，直到麻薩諸塞州Worchester的一位電台DJ在夏季不斷推薦"Michael (Row The Boat Ashore)"，反而使唱片背面的這首經典民謠登上了排行榜冠軍寶座（1961年）。

1962年他們接著推出的"Cotton Fields"獲得了第13名 ，反面的"The Gypsy Rover" 也獲得第42名。

由於他們堅持不放棄校園演出，每逢週末還要回去表演，因此影響了他們在唱片圈的成就，1962年接著推出的"I'm On My Way" 只得到第90名，而後來得第64名的 "The Bird Man"則是the Highwaymen最後一首進排行榜的歌。

Dobie Gray去世

1973年以"Drift Away"一曲成名的黑人歌手、作曲者Dobie Gray 12月6日去世（71歲），本名Lawrence Darrow Brown的他1940年出生於德州Brookshire，1960年代初期搬到洛杉磯，因為Sonny Bono的幫助，Dobie Gray開始幫Stripe唱片公司錄歌，1963年底就灌了七張單曲唱片，1965年他的"The 'In Crowd'"終於讓他初嚐成功滋味，但之後在歌壇乏善可陳，他花了二年多的時間參加了洛杉磯當地製作的搖滾樂劇Hair「毛髮」的演出，一直到1972年他才以"Drift Away"那首歌重回暢銷榜，1979年的"You Can Do It"是他最後一首Top40的歌，1980年代他有4首鄉村歌曲排行榜暢銷曲。


"Drift Away"於1973年曾獲排行榜第5名，2003年時UNCLE KRACKER Fewaturing Dobie Gray重新灌唱這首歌，獲得排行榜第9名。

雷鬼大師Bob Marley的名曲

1976年12月3日，Bob Marley的太太Rita和經紀人Don Taylor，在牙買加Kingston家中遭到七個槍手襲擊而受傷，這個本來要攻擊Bob Marley 的行動被認為與政治有關。


Bob Marley 1945年出生於在牙買加Rhoden Hall，是一位傳奇reggae雷鬼音樂吉它手、歌手與作曲人，1981年5月11日因癌症去世（36歲），他被譽為第三世界的超級巨星，也是最有領袖性格與挑戰性的一代歌手，因為Bob Marley＆The Wailers的歌聲受到注目，也幫助了牙買加的ska音樂 與近代雷鬼音樂成長。

Bob Marley 1994年即獲選進搖滾樂名人堂，2001年更獲Grammy終生成就獎，他在排行榜上沒有Top 40的歌，但無損於他在歌唱界的成就，像1975年自倫敦巡迴演唱時收錄的現場演唱版No Woman,No Cry live雖然沒進過排行榜，但在滾石雜誌500大歌曲榜獲得第37名，Grammy與搖滾樂名人堂也都收進這首歌，No Woman,No Cry歌詞創意來自Bob Marley幼年住過的Trench Town貧民窟的回憶，Bob Marley寫這首歌給他太太Rita，但是有人說為了經濟上幫他童年的玩伴Vincent”Tata”Ford，讓他的湯廚能繼續開下去，所以給他也掛名共同創作，但事實上是二人一起寫的歌，Tata也於2008年底因糖尿病併發症去世。

Bob Marley的兒子Damian和Ziggy Marley也先後踏入歌壇。
