影星Patty Duke去世

曾經贏得奧斯卡獎的女明星 Patty Duke，三月29日不幸因敗血症於洛杉磯去世 (69歲)。

Patty Duke本名Anna Marie Duke，出生於紐約Elmhurst，她的母親後來幫他改名Patty，帶她去參加電視才藝競賽、拍平面廣告，1959年還在64,000美元挑戰賽裡贏了32,000元。

她在演藝圈最大的突破是於1959 至1961年百老匯的一齣舞台劇"The Miracle Worker"中飾演海倫凱勒，之後她接著在電影版的該劇中擔任主角，並於1962年獲得奧斯卡最佳女配角獎。

1963年Patty有了自己的電視節目"Patty Duke Show"，她在節目中一人分飾二位個性完全不同的表姊妹Patty Lane及Cathy，這節目播了三年，期間他還出了二張暢銷唱片"Don't Just Stand There" (#8-1965) 及"Say Something Funny" (#22-1965)。

1969年Patty Duke試圖以名著改編的電影"Valley Of The Dolls"｢娃娃谷｣ 的演出改變形象，她飾演的Neely O'Hara替她贏得了一座最佳女主角金球獎。

Patty Duke自1985 至1988年擔任過電影演員工會的理事長，她的自傳"Call Me Anna"於1988年出版，書中描寫了她對抗躁鬱症的過程。

Patty Duke結過四次婚，包括演員John Astin，她也是演員Sean Astin的母親，但有消息說Sean並非John Astin的兒子。

"Taxi"的故事

已故民歌作曲人、歌手Harry Chapin的情境歌曲"Taxi"及"Sequel"中的女主角Clare Alden MacIntyre-Ross，三月九日因心肌哽塞於維吉尼亞州Falls Church去世。

Harry Chapin於 1942年出生於紐約Greenwich Village，1981年七月16日因車禍去世 (38歲)，他的成名曲"Taxi"於1972獲得24名。

Taxi這一首歌講Harry與Sue曾是一對情侶，因女方想當演員，男方想當飛行員而分手，沒想到後來事與願違，Harry開計程車維生，Sue卻如願成了明星，住豪宅。在一個下大雨的夜晚，Harry正想多賺一點車資過日子，他卻載了前女友 Sue，經過禮貌性地寒暄，Harry知道他們已經是不同世界的人了。這首歌最令人難忘的一段是後來Sue拿出二十元付二點五元的車資，並且說"Harry, keep the change"，換別人也許會生氣，也或許感到受傷，但Harry只是把鈔票塞進了口袋裡。

"Taxi"於1980年岀過續集"Sequel"，獲得比"Taxi"還好的第23名，歌迷們顯然想知道結果如何。

前衛搖滾Emerson, Lake & Palmer

前衛搖滾Emerson, Lake & Palmer鋼琴手Keith Emerson三月十日在加州Santa Monica去世 (71歲)，他的死因是槍殺，但警方調查後認定是自殺。

Keith Emerson出生於英格蘭約克夏的Todmorden，受過古典樂的教育，1967年組成The Nice 合唱團之前曾在四個當地樂團工作過，1969年Keith與主唱、吉他手King Crimson的 Greg Lake，和鼓手Atomic Rooster與Crazy World of Athur Brown 的Carl Palmer組成ELP (Emerson, Lake & Palmer)，接著和Atlantic唱片公司簽了約 。

1970 至1992年Emerson, Lake & Palmer成績斐然，獲得十張金唱片，雖然他們以專輯唱片起家，但也有四首歌進入熱門排行榜，其中"Lucky Man" (#48-1971 and #51-1972) 與 "From The Beginning" (#39-1972)名次算較好的。

Emerson, Lake & Palmer於1979年解散，但是Keith 與 Greg加上Cozy Powell之後重組該團，2002 年Keith 並與重組的The Nice 合唱團曾巡迴演唱，他取名自ELP一張專輯的自傳"Pictures of an Exhibitionist"則於2004年出版。

前衛搖滾Progressive rock是1960年代中期從英國發展出的一種搖滾樂，在義大利、德國和法國都有歌迷喜好，與迷幻搖滾密不可分的前衛搖滾，捨棄較短的流行單曲表現方式，從作曲和樂器演奏部份去發揮，試圖加入古典音樂和爵士樂的連結，去提升搖滾樂的水準，期盼讓一般人尊敬。

懷念的旋律"The Wayward Wind"

1956年以冠軍曲"The Wayward Wind"成名的老歌星Gogi Grant，三月十日去世 (91歲) 。

Gogi Grant本名Myrtle Audrey Arinsberg，出生於費城，12歲時全家搬家到洛杉磯，因參加才藝競賽出名開始錄唱片，藝名Audrey Brown，後來改為Audrey Grant，最後才改為Gogi Grant。

Gogi Grant先以"Suddenly There's A Valley"於1955年獲得第九名，然後才以"The Wayward Wind"於次年獲得排行榜冠軍，但是她推出其它的四首都沒進入排行榜前四十名，1961年"The Wayward Wind"重新推出也只獲得50名。

Gogi Grant於1967宣告退休。

George Martin與Yesterday

Beatles合唱團製作人George Martin三月八日於英格蘭家中去世，被暱稱為第五名披頭團員的他享年九十歲。

出生倫敦的他雖然早年主要製作古典和逗趣唱片，但是1962年他在EMI旗下的Parlophone唱片公司工作，簽下了來自利物浦的the Beatles合唱團，是他成為日後搖滾樂名製作人之一的濫觴。

除了the Beatles之外，他和British Invasion｢英國搖滾入侵美國｣的Gerry and the Pacemakers、Cilla Black、Billy J. Kramer & the Dakotas合作過，後來還協助過America、 Cheap Trick,、the Bee Gees 與 Ultravox這些著名合唱團。

前Beatles合唱團團員Paul McCartney在George Martin去世後發表專文悼念，他說:｢世上失去了一位偉人，他留下無法忘懷的印記在我心靈和英國音樂史上｣。

Paul回憶當年他帶著Yesterday的歌譜到錄音室，隊友們建議他用吉他自彈自唱，當他拿錄好的試唱帶給George Martin聽，George建議他改用弦樂伴奏，Paul當場反對說:｢我們是搖滾樂團，我不認為這是個好的構想｣，但George很紳士的對他說:｢我們試過如不行再改回你的Solo唱法｣，還好Paul同意了，隔天並去George Martin家裡一同編曲，一首偉大的作品就這樣問世，而且後來Frank Sinatra、貓王、Ray Charles、Marvin Gaye等上千歌手錄過這首歌。

Yesterday於1965年獲得四周排行榜冠軍，是BMI百名最常播出歌曲榜第三名的歌。

Baby It's You主唱去世

1969年Smith合唱團曾經翻唱the Shirelles的老歌"Baby It's You"，推出後成績較原唱更好，獲得排行榜第五名 (Shirelles版於1962年獲得第八名)，這個合唱團的主唱Gayle McCormick不幸於三月一日過世 (67歲)。

Gayle McCormick於1949年出生於聖路易，1960年代中期於故鄉加入Steve Cummings & The Klassmen合唱團，開始她的演唱生涯，曾經有幾首歌獲得當地歌迷的青睞，1969年她轉往加州發展，接手了快解體的Smith合唱團，並和 ABC-Dunhill唱片公司簽了約，沒想到這個合唱團因"Baby It's You"爆紅，但是接著推出的"Take A Look Around (#43-1970) 與 "What Am I Gonna Do" (#73-1970) 成績就不行了，1971年Smith合唱團因而解散，Gayle McCormick離開Smith合唱團後推出的第一首歌"Gonna Be Alright Now" (#84-1971)，成績仍無起色，但是第二首歌"It's A Cryin' Shame"於1971年得到第44名，成績還差強人意，她 的第三首歌"You Really Got A Hold On Me" (#98-1972)，讓Dunhill唱片公司決定與 她解約，後來 她轉往Decca 與Fantasy唱片公司繼續奮鬥，但都無法回到排行榜，直到1975年 她才以"Coming In Out Of The Rain"回到抒情歌曲排行榜。

藍調搖滾名團Cream

搖滾樂史上大名鼎鼎的藍調搖滾三人合唱團Cream的鼓手Ginger Baker，最近在醫師的要求下，取消了四、五月份的十場演唱會，原因跟嚴重的心臟問題有關。

Ginger Baker 1939年八月出生於倫敦南方Lewisham，現年76歲，他以搖滾樂史上第一位超級巨星鼓手知名。

Cream三名團員是吉他手Eric Clapton，貝斯手Jack Bruce及鼓手Ginger Baker，Baker與 Bruce曾在Alexis Korners Blues Inc(CCS)與THE Graham Bond Organization共事，Clapton與Bruce則在John Mayalls Bluesbreakers合作過，而Cream解散後Clapton與Baker則另組過著名的Bind Faith合唱團。

Cream於1993年獲選入搖滾樂名人堂，2006年則獲Grammy終生成就獎。

Cream在排行榜上名次最好的歌是1968年獲得第五名的Sunshine Of Your Love，這首歌在滾石雜誌500大歌曲排行榜獲得第65名。
