1969年Smith合唱團曾經翻唱the Shirelles的老歌"Baby It's
You"，推出後成績較原唱更好，獲得排行榜第五名 (Shirelles版於1962年獲得第八名)，這個合唱團的主唱Gayle McCormick不幸於三月一日過世 (67歲)。
Gayle McCormick於1949年出生於聖路易，1960年代中期於故鄉加入Steve Cummings & The Klassmen合唱團，開始她的演唱生涯，曾經有幾首歌獲得當地歌迷的青睞，1969年她轉往加州發展，接手了快解體的Smith合唱團，並和 ABC-Dunhill唱片公司簽了約，沒想到這個合唱團因"Baby It's
You"爆紅，但是接著推出的"Take A Look Around (#43-1970) 與 "What Am I Gonna Do" (#73-1970) 成績就不行了，1971年Smith合唱團因而解散，Gayle
McCormick離開Smith合唱團後推出的第一首歌"Gonna
Be Alright Now" (#84-1971)，成績仍無起色，但是第二首歌"It's
A Cryin' Shame"於1971年得到第44名，成績還差強人意，她 的第三首歌"You Really Got A Hold On Me" (#98-1972)，讓Dunhill唱片公司決定與 她解約，後來 她轉往Decca 與Fantasy唱片公司繼續奮鬥，但都無法回到排行榜，直到1975年 她才以"Coming In Out Of The Rain"回到抒情歌曲排行榜。
