Kool and the Gang-Cherish

     於1981年1月26日結束在伊朗長達444天的囚禁返回家園時，一首振奮人心的歌曲〈Celebration〉為他們慶祝。這首歌是新澤西州澤西市一支成立17年的樂團的首支冠軍單曲。〈Celebration〉也是1981年超級盃的主題曲並在1984年7月民主黨全國代表大會上慶祝活動中響起。

      Kool and the Gang樂團的起源可以追溯到1964年，當時14歲的貝斯手羅伯特「Kool」 Bell組了一支名為 Jazziacs的樂團。樂團成員還包括小號手Robert “Spike” Mickens、Dennis “D.T.” Thomas 演奏中音薩克斯，George Brown擔任鼓手，Charles Smith擔任主音吉他手，Robert兄弟 Ronald Bell演奏次中音薩克斯。樂團最初組成時，庫爾告訴《滾石》雜誌：「我們經常在澤西市一個叫聖約翰的地方即興演奏，jazz 二人組 Pharaoh Sanders和Leon Thomas也經常來。」 到了60年代末， the Jazziacs （後來更名為 the SoulTown Band）改變了風格，通過在爵士樂根基上融入強勁的節奏/放克節拍a heavy R&B/funk beat ，在澤西地區迅速積累了大量粉絲。

  Kool在接受《滾石》雜誌採訪時回憶道，「我們就開始聊天了。我們都來自爵士樂背景，所以彼此之間很有默契。」我們討論過不要過度創作，同樣的問題，所以他一直說：「我們不要走得太遠，保持簡單、基礎和乾淨。」

《Ladies Night》一發行便誕生了兩首熱門歌曲。

     1980 年，《Ladies Night》發行，同名主打歌（1 月排名第8）和〈Too Hot〉（4 月排名第5）。隨後，樂團發行了第六首上榜單曲〈Celebration〉，並獲得了美國唱片工業協會 (RIAA) 的白金認證。

  在隨後的幾年裡，這支樂團繼續取得佳績，值得慶祝〈Joanna〉在1984年2月榮登排行榜第2名）。 「我們都對未來的發展方向和所取得的成就感到非常樂觀，」Kool說。 “這一天我們期待已久…」。
