The Chi-lites -Oh, girl

    The Chi-lites 耐心等待，最後獲得Billboard Hot 100單曲榜冠軍。本周要推薦這個 R&B 合唱團最有名的二首歌。

  該組合是1960 年由 Marchall Thompson 組成的 。 Marchall Thompson 為芝加哥人，曾在 Regal 劇院替 Major Lance、the Dells 及 the Flamingos 合唱團擔任鼓手。Thompson 與團隊成員Creadel Jones 在當地樂隊Desideros一起演唱過。他們曾以 HiLites 團名和 Mercury唱片公司簽約。

  HiLites 的一首名為(Pots and Pans)的單曲推出後成績不佳。他們不但丟了合約也丟了他們的團名。因為另一個團體先擁有它。Thompson 認為如果在團名前面加一個 C 並說明來自芝加哥，這會讓他們 再生。

  正名 Marshall and the Chi-Lites之後他們為James Shelton錄製了唱片，他們與 Mercury唱片公司重新簽約，在 Blue 公司發行了兩首單曲。但 Rock 子公司再次被撤銷。 1967 年，樂團透過 Dakar 製作公與 MCA 達成協議。改變他們的名字永久地為 Chi-Lites。

  1969年春天他們進入了 Hot 100。(Give It Away #88)用的是MCA 的 Brunswick 品牌。

  1971 年 5 月，(Have You Seen Her)這首歌飆升至 Hot100單曲榜第3名。但是接著推出的(I Want to PayYou Back For Loving Me)只勉強獲得了95名，而他們推出的下一首歌 (Oh Girl) 卻是 一首優美的曲子，透過精湛的製作和令人難忘的演唱，觸動了歌迷大眾的心弦。樂評人Joe McEwen寫道:過度的男性化鮮明寫照，甚至不下於當年另外兩個帶有憂鬱風的合唱團The Moments 和 The Delfonics，且效果更好。

  The Chi-Lites 主唱 Eugene Record那尖細的男高音加上偶爾會出現最哀怨孤獨的口琴聲在(Oh Girl)和((The) Coldest Days of My Life)二首歌中，悲情往往是相當戲劇化且有效…。

  The Chi-Lites 繼《Oh Girl》之後的 Top 30 暢銷曲只有(Stoned Out of My Mind) 。
